Marcy L. Shaw, Esq.

Marcy L. Shaw received her Bachelor of Arts degree with honors in Interdisciplinary Studies in Latin America from the University of Florida in August of 1995. During her undergraduate career, Ms. Shaw was a member of the Golden Key Honor Society, Phi Sigma Iota International Foreign Language Honor Society and was also the recipient of the 1994 Florida Brazil Travel Scholarship which allowed her to study at the Instituto Brasiliero dos Estados Unidos in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Upon completing her undergraduate studies, Ms. Shaw began to pursue a legal career by attending the Levin College of Law at the University of Florida.

During her law school career she actively participated in the John Marshall Bar Association and the American Bar Association, where she was the recipient of the "Bar Study Scholarship." Ms. Shaw excelled in law school and was awarded her Juris Doctorate with honors from the University of Florida in 1998.

Ms. Shaw began her work experience immediately upon graduation at the Office of the State Attorney for the 20th Judicial Circuit in May of 1998, first as a Certified Legal Intern then as an Assistant State Attorney. In her position as Assistant State Attorney, she successfully prosecuted numerous domestic violence, child homicide, physical and sexual abuse, high profile adult sexual battery and capital cases. In addition to Ms. Shaw's demanding career as a Felony Prosecutor, she managed to give back to her legal community and was even awarded the Community Service Award from the Office of the State Attorney for the 20th Judicial Circuit in 2002. From 2001 to 2003, Ms. Shaw also served as a Child Support Hearing Officer.

From 2003 to 2010 Ms. Shaw practiced as a shareholder at a boutique firm in Cape Coral. In November of 2010, Ms. Shaw opened The Law Office of Marcy L. Shaw in Fort Myers where she enjoys a fast-paced general trial practice. In addition to her private practice, from 2006 to 2014, Ms. Shaw served as a Civil Traffic Infraction Hearing Officer for the 20th Judicial Circuit. In this capacity she presided over tens of thousands of hearings, pretrial and post-trial matters throughout the Circuit.

Ms. Shaw is a Past President of the Lee County Bar Association, where she served as a member of the Executive Council from 2004 through 2008. In 2012, following a contested four-way election, Ms. Shaw was elected by the majority of her peers outright to serve on The Florida Bar Board of Governors representing the 20th Judicial Circuit. She has subsequently been re-elected without opposition. She presently serves on the Communications Committee, Pro Bono Legal Services Committee and on the Disciplinary Procedures Committee.

Ms. Shaw is an active member of The Florida Bar, the Lee County Bar Association, the Collier County Bar Association, the Collier County Women's Bar Association, the Charlotte County Bar Association and the Hendry-Glades County Bar Association. She is a former Associate and Barrister in the Calusa Chapter of the American Inns of Court and a Fellow of The National Conference of Bar Presidents and The Florida Bar Foundation.
